<400
hours—At the peak of a 30 year collaboration (see also
The
Music of Frederick Sommer), Nazraeli Press agreed
to publish a collection of collagraphs, Metaphysics in
Jars. The book was to be printed on a standard offset
lithograph press, and the printer (O.G.P.) wanted to scan
the images themselves. To keep costs down, I reprinted all
of the images (67) on the same silver-gelatin photographic
paper and toned in the same way so that the scans would be
more consistent. |

Printed
in China, the costs were low enough to justify the large size.
Many of the images were printed full size. Many of the images
were landscape format and we did not want the reader to have
to turn the book, while at the same time having enough height
for the verticals. The large page size gives the images breathing
room. |
