The
issue of notes inégales in Baroque music
is important for both analysis and performance. David
Fuller's monograph, "Mechanical Musical Instruments
as a Sourse for the Study of Notes Inégales,"
was particularly significant because it brought with
it actual proof: information on barrel pinning and actual
musical performances. The design concern was to make
the presentation light and eloquent, and not dry and
academic as the title might imply. The 7" record
with a pocket on the inside back cover, a gatefold,
and the need to annotate the transcriptions defined
the proportions of the booklet. The illustration had
to be made, facsimiles obtained and music notated. |

The cover was glued to fly sheets so
no staple showed on the cover. It was also die cut and
scored to form the pocket, which had to be glued in place.

The heart of the booklet was the
recording, made from less than good tape recordings
of the mechanical music boxes.
